Measured against the marks teachers actually wrote on their own class sets, with nobody adjudicating between the teacher and the software: across 1,830 question sections on 60 real GCSE maths scripts, marked by the teacher before Marky saw them, 90.8% of Marky's marks are identical to the teacher's, 99.2% are within one mark and 99.8% are within two. Where the two differ Marky is usually the more generous, by one mark. An AS maths cohort is reported separately on the accuracy page, because that teacher could see Marky's mark while marking. The teacher-referenced figures are mathematics; physics is measured separately, against our reading of the mark scheme. The set comes back ranked by how close each total is to a grade boundary, with the reason stated, and you can always review and adjust before sharing results.

Student papers can be uploaded as PDFs or as photographs (.jpg, .png, .heic or .webp) taken on a phone, and mark schemes as PDFs. You can also scan handwritten papers with a document scanner. Marky reads handwriting directly from the scan, and most marks come with a quote of the answer they were read from.

Yes. Marky is built for UK GDPR. Student data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in London, and never used to train AI models. Staff actions are recorded in an audit log, and schools get a data processing agreement.

Yes. Google Classroom import brings in your classes and student lists. There are no feature tiers at Marky, so this is available to every school.

On Instant, most class sets of approximately 30 papers come back in 20 to 30 minutes: all 30 are marked simultaneously in a single wave, and each script uses two papers from the department allowance instead of one. On the Standard lane, which is the default, the same set typically takes 60 minutes, and uses one paper per script. Papers are processed together rather than sequentially, so most of that time is fixed overhead and substantially larger sets do not take proportionally longer. Instant can be chosen for a single marking run once it is switched on for the school. These timings are typical rather than guaranteed and can be longer at busy periods. When several Instant classes are sent at once they wait their turn, and the run's page shows where yours is in the queue. A notification is sent when results are available.
