How Marky works
Three steps to mark an entire class set of papers. Upload, mark, and share results: on Instant most classes come back in 20 to 30 minutes; the Standard lane typically takes 60 minutes.
Upload your mark scheme and papers
Upload the official mark scheme first, then the class set. Scan the papers or photograph them on a phone. Marky accepts PDFs and photographs directly, with no conversion required.
- PDFs and photographs accepted directly: .pdf from any scanner or document application, and .jpg, .png, .heic or .webp from a phone camera. Scripts up to 100 MB per PDF and 25 MB per photograph, mark schemes and question papers up to 100 MB, or a .zip archive for a full set
- Reads handwriting directly from the scan, including crossed-out working and, on maths papers, answers continued in the margin and method that arrives by an unexpected route
- Official mark schemes from AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and WJEC/Eduqas
- Full class sets or individual papers: on Instant most sets of approximately 30 come back in 20 to 30 minutes, and a single paper in about 15 minutes; on the Standard lane the same set is typically returned in 60 minutes
AI marks every answer
Marky reads each answer, compares it against the mark scheme criteria, and awards marks against each part of the scheme, with feedback that names the marks awarded (M1, A1 and so on) where the scheme uses them.
- Over 99% of marks within one mark of the mark the class teacher gave, across 1,830 GCSE maths sections on 60 real scripts, with 90.8% identical. Nobody adjudicated between the teacher and the software. An AS maths cohort is reported separately, because that teacher could see Marky's mark while marking. The teacher-referenced evidence is maths; physics is measured separately, against our reading of the mark scheme. The accuracy page gives the method and the limits

Instant is available once it is switched on for the school, then chosen per marking run. Timings are typical rather than guaranteed
